Linda Olson's book is an amazing journey of self-forgiveness and moving on when the pain is unbearable. Her pain gripped my heart and then turned around and encouraged my heart as well. As I read her story, I felt as though I was there going through the pain as well as the victories with her. Linda Olson is a dynamic writer with a more than dynamic story of painful tragedy, overcoming obstacles, enjoying the victories, and most of all forgiving herself because her loving God has forgiven her.

This was a really delightful tale full of twists and turns, memorable characters, trolls, magic, good and evil. It was whimsical and I believe children (and adults) will love it. Adventure and danger abound but not too scary, so children can enjoy without nightmares. Richly creative and well written. Kudo’s to this debut author.

I have been looking for a chapter book about a train adventure in this reading level for what seems to be years. I was so psyched when I stumbled upon this book. My 8 year old train enthused nephew was thrilled to start reading this. And to know its the first of a new trilogy is really exciting! Can’t wait to read more! Thank you.

This book is a great children's book as well as a good book for all ages. While making sure to stay at a low reading comprehension level, P.G. Bell tells a fun and interesting story. While not revolutionary, the author does a good job of putting some new spins on a story of the fantastic intruding on the mundane. There are times in the book where you will predict the outcome or intentions/motivations of a character, and be right, only to find out after that, those simple ideas have a fair bit more deep motivation. The world here can seem very much like a classic cliche of a fantasy world discovery. However, as the plot moves along, much like the train of the story, things seem to have more angles and twists to them than you first think. Overall, "The Train to Impossible Places" is a story you'll find is much deeper than it first appears. The protagonist is likable and the story is very engaging. My only real issue is that there are a couple of characters who aren't quite given enough time for you to go beyond the 2 dimensional, albeit fun, ideas. This book will be enjoyable for anyone, but children will probably enjoy it more than adults and teenagers.

This is a very appealing book. The basic story---an 11 year old girl named Suzy suddenly is faced with a train running through her house, a train that is taking a shortcut through time and space to various wonderland type kingdoms. Suzy winds up on the train and is recruited through a series of events to be an assistant to the postal worker on the train, and during her first delivery, she is caught up in trying to save a boy who has been enchanted, and who claims the whole future of impossible places is at stake if she doesn't help him.There are lots of neat touches here---a enchantress who takes away a half hour of Suzy's life because she's half an hour late, a retirement home for postal-working trolls, a chapter entitled "The Liar, The Witch and the War Zone" in homage to Narnia---imaginative and fun little details. What I wish is that there were more of those and less pure action and plot. The appeal of imaginary worlds to me is the setting---getting to feel like I know the worlds, immersing myself in them. I feel like this book was too focused on a plot, and only in a few moments did we get to just sit back and enjoy the ride. The story is a fairly good one, with some twists and turns, but I wanted to see much more of the many worlds that were said to be part of this realm.Overall, though, this book has huge promise. Suzy is a cool character with an unusual interest---physics. Unlike some books I've read, the author doesn't make this into a science book in disguise. Suzy's knowledge comes in handy several times, but the fuzzy physics of the other realm also at times make her see that her Earth based science isn't as hard and fast as she thought. I hope there are more books about Suzy and her postal friends. I'm looking forward to the author filling out the worlds he created.

Kindergarten-Grade 2?Charming illustrations are matched with a pedestrian, laundered text in this bilingual version of the familiar story. Jack trades his goat for magic beans, to the great and predictable ire of his mother, who flings the beans around with the usual results. The beanstalk grows, Jack climbs, and here the version departs from the traditional one: at the top of the beanstalk sits a little old woman who tells Jack that the giant stole his fortune from Jack's father. While this does give a motive for Jack's theft, part of the charm of the original story is the protagonist's meld of fool and rapscallion. There's no "Fee Fi Fo Fum" here, no magic harps, or golden egg-laying chickens?only a money bag. Too bad about the text, because the illustrations are charming. Ballester's style is reminiscent of that of Victoria Kahl, Wendy Watson, and Lois Lenski?rounded and clean-lined, with a pleasing sense of volume. The limited palette?gold, sepia, deep blue, burgundy, dark green, black, and white?is eye-catching. Composition, whether in full-page or small illustrations, is balanced and attractive. Certainly, the pictures and the fact that the text is well translated into Spanish could provide an impetus for purchase. However, Steven Kellogg's Jack and the Beanstalk (Morrow, 1991) or Gail Haley's variant, Jack and the Fire Dragon (Crown, 1988) have zippier story lines and are likewise stylishly illustrated. The story line is a bit different from the version I'm accustomed to. This one has Jack selling a goat, a lady at the top of the bean stalk tells jack the gold belonged to his father and was stolen by the giant and at the end the magical lady gets rid of the stalk with the touch of her wand. There is no Fe Fi Fo Fum, etc either. Still a good story, just a different version.

We have several from this series. They are beautiful -- photos and text lay-out -- and in very high-quality paper. This would make a lovely gift, or a hand-me-down sort of book for the home (I'm inclined to keep ours for my kids' kids).

The story wasn't exactly the way I remembered it, but the translation was well-done and the illustrations were interesting. I learned some new words in Spanish.

Like you may assume, this is a retelling of the classic fairy tale in English and Spanish. The translations are pretty accurate, so if that's your concern, you can go ahead and get this book.What I didn't like was that the story was much more condensed from how I remembered it. I realize that everyone's entitled to tweak the story a little bit, but a lot of critical parts in the story are missing. While Jack does get some magical beans and climbs the stalk, not much activity occurs between the time he spots the giant and escapes with the money. It doesn't seem like an adequate story since the adventure at the top of the beanstalk has been reduced to a mere couple of sentences. It's true that very young children might not notice that a big detail in the story is gone, but I'm sure there are better versions of the story out there. Unfortunately most of those other versions aren't presented in both English and Spanish.

A condensed Jack and Beanstalk story in English and Spanish. Great for a quick bedtime story for little ones, for young readers who speak both languages, or are learning one or the other. But the best memory I have of this book is that it introduced me to Arnal Ballester, the illustrator. Here he's limited to a few characters (still great), but seek him out and you'll find a body of work that will leave your mind glowing.

I thought this was going to be a book to help you understand the headings, acronyms, footnotes, etc., that are used in the charts and tables of the Machinery's Guide -- not a mathematics textbook.

The book was in great condition but I couldn't find in the description, the size of the book. Was very disappointed that it's a very small book, about 4x6.

This book is part of the background material for a short story. It adds reality to this Sci-Fi story.

'Fire-Hot Aunt Vol. 1' by Katsuki Izumi is a manga about a young man attending school with his beautiful same-age aunt.Toru's mother and grandmother both got pregnant at the same time. That means Toru's aunt Sugako is the same age as him. When they end up in the same high school, trouble happens. Sugako only sees Toru as her cute adorable nephew at the age of about 6. Toru doesn't like his aunt treating him with familial affection, especially in front of Mochida, the girl he has a crush on. Toru's aunt has some other weird qualities: she's amazingly good at hitting home runs in softball, really doesn't like people calling her old, and is secretly a mythological creature.At first, I wasn't sure about the idea of the premise, but I didn't have anything to worry about. The art is fun, as are the stories. I liked this comedy of errors with a supernatural element.I received a review copy of this manga from Akita Publishing Co. Ltd. and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manga.

fun little read.only issue is a fair number of the pages are missing a 1/4 inch of the bottom of the page. it's only an issue on 3-4 pages where a word or two of dialogue is in the cutoff part bit but is minor.

I am really enjoying the story so far! I can't wait to read the next chapters, going to be a interesting run!
