This is one of my favorite Bible Dictionaries. I feel that it gives you the information you actually want to know, especially for those not wanting all the extra critical scholarship. This Dictionary is thorough yet simple and holds the Bible in high esteem and authority. I lead a small Bible school and we use this for our students alongside the Anchor Yale encyclopedia set and I actually prefer this for our students most of the time. It contains way less information because it is one large volume as opposed to a whole set like the Anchor Yale. If you are looking for a Dictionary for your own personal study, this is the one.

I've used this text, as well as The New Bible Commentary, for two decades teaching Sunday School. I have many reference texts to help preparing my lessons, but if I had to choose only one to have this one would be it. It's authoritative without being written in excessively stilted language. I have gifted it to visiting missionaries to help in their teaching, both for its quality and because the single volume can be carried in their return luggage. In my experience it's the best authoritative, single volume Biblical reference book on the market.

At this date, this volume is hardly "new," but it's been a standard for years. I gave my first copy to a school in Brazil, and ended up ordering a used one to replace it because I missed having it handy.

Very good Bible dictionary. Have others and always looking to learn something new about a Bible word. Bible dictionaries have a lot of the same words but not all have the same information. Each one is different and unique in itself. Would recommend the New Bible Dictionary to anyone who is a student, no matter what your age. Like other Bible dictionaries, there are many scholars who contribute so there is always the advantage and privilege of learning something from a different perspective.

I am very pleased with the New Bible Dictionary I purchased recently. I teach an adult Sunday School class which requires a lot of preparation and in-depth study. My pastor suggested this book as a reliable resources that he uses to prepare his sermons. He lent me his copy so I could decide if it would fit my needs. It appears to have even more helps and information than I could have hoped for. The pastor gave me great advice when he recommended that I should order this book!

My third edition is a yellow cloth hardback with a sandy dust jacket.PROS: Smyth sewn binding. Some fascinating topics and long essays. Detailed analysis with occasional black-n-white charts and maps. Mainly British scholarship. Available for Logos Bible software, cross linked to other IVP reference works.CONS: Smaller print than most large Bible dictionaries. Outdated (1962-1996, KJV, RV, RSV) with line drawings, no photos, no color and no tabbed index. Geared more towards liberal scholarly argument than devout Christian Bible study. Far too much time and credibility granted to subjective "biblical (higher) criticism," which questions the authorship and historical accuracy of the Bible. Late dates the exodus and other "chronology" events. Leans away from fundamentalism and dispensationalism. Topics are not well cross referenced. No entry for english Bible versions. Not available for the Kindle.ALTERNATIVES: 1: Unger's (insightful). 2: Holman's (colorful). 3: Nelson's (concise). 4. Nave's or MacArthur's Topical Bible (Scriptures)

I won't try to summarize the book here, but I will say, this book really clicked for me, and I am a non-gambler now! I have tried other methods, and failed miserably to defeat my gambling addiction. This book really dissects the myths of gambling, and it is not using will power. It is a method of analyzing and breaking down the condition, explaining the illusion and tricks that gambling has played on your brain. Now that I read the book, it all seems so simple and clear. I will re-read this book periodically as a refresher. I can say with great satisfaction and thanks to the author, that I am a changed man, and I am quite certain that I will never gamble again in my life. I could not be happier!

Like "McElligot's Pool,""If I Ran the Zoo" is a non-narrative paean to unbridled childhood imagination. A young tyke, Gerald McGrew, is unimpressed by everyday lions and tigers, so he dreams up his own menagerie, which gets wilder and more ambitious by the page. If "McElligot" boasted some lavish watercolors, "Zoo" stays with Seuss's trademark pen and ink, with occasional fill-in colors. The whimsy factor of "Zoo," however, is kicked up several notches beyond the "Pool." The vocabulary level is that of the better known "Horton Hears a Who!," two books down the road.

This was a birthday gift for my granddaughter who loves all kinds of animals and would visit the zoo everyday if she could. This fed her curiosity and imagination.

I just bought this in hopes that the animals would be fun for my daughter but unfortunately this book is also peppered with racist charicatures that I wasn’t expecting. It has not aged well and generally I just don’t think it holds up to the stories and rhymes of other Seuss books we have.

I remember my mother reading this to me when I was a child, and I am currently reading it to my son. You just can't beat a classic Seuss.

I first read this book about 60 years ago when I got it from my elementary school library. You had to get on a waiting list because the book was always checked out. Dr. Seuss just had that way of connecting with kids in a way that no other writer had.

Second go around with Dr. Seuss. Now we are reading to the grands!

OK with some good info but little on Mastodons

Just what I needed at that time! A good book! I would recommend this book!

I Have Adrian Lister's other work; 'Mammoths, Giants of the Ice Age,' and it is a very good book full of useful knowledge from 2007. The QUESTION I have is what makes THIS book a BETTER book, as in, what new, or additional information does it contain, and SPECIFICALLY, what does it have to say about the MASTODONS, which these days appear as the 'red-headed stepchildren' of the mammoths, and no-one wants to to talk much about them, although they have at LEAST as much significance as the mammoths, and a far more diverse evolutionary trail. So TELL me that I will receive some solid info on the mastodons, as WELL as the mammoths, and I will buy this book, but not before!

Uses his understanding of mana manipulation to get access to magic and explores caverns only to discover them already occupied by a goblin tribe.Now he has to not only convince this tribe to accept him as one of their own but formulate some plan to get his revenge on the people that betrayed him.---This is a great story. You’ll love it if you like community building or town building stories.The first 27% of the story is about Oren, the main character (MC), getting trapped as a goblin. Him figuring out that the goblins he’s been killing his entire gaming career, actually have culture and a tribal society that he can use to grow in power and get his revenge on those that wronged him. He does a bunch of quests that reveal how being an monster is different than being a player and there’s a storyline about how the game company can’t just save him.--Slight Spoilers--From about the 27-82% mark of the story, it’s really all about community and town building. The MC founds his own goblin village and there’s a bunch of new game mechanics that revolve around spawning new goblins, building structures, and balancing village resources to accomplish goals. It’s all very interesting if you like games like Civilization, Warcraft, Starcraft, or Total War.There still personal power development for the main character and some combat scenes and an external threat from some hobgoblin tribes but for the most part in this section it’s about town building stuff.At about the 82% mark, the story shifts away from town building and there’s a more standard narrative as the MC tries to save someone he’s come to care about and has to face off against the big bad villain.I had a great time reading this story but I’m also a big fan of those resource management civilization games. If those kinds of games don’t appeal to you, you’ll find the entire middle section of this story boring. There are tons of details about development trees and pages and pages of descriptions of building functions, specializations for goblins, class development, resource requirements, and more.Score: 8 out of 10.

Life Reset was an ambitious book in the sense that the main character, through circumstances beyond his control, became a monster character. This, by itself, sets the story in a category of its own. To add to that, the author made the protagonist a lowly goblin. This was a challenging set up for any LitRPG author to write. In Life Reset, the author more than succeeded in this endeavor; he crafted an intense, gripping tale of survival for the MC in a world where everyone and everything was aligned against him. Additionally, the author was able to define his gaming world's mechanics in a very easy-to-follow manner and created a very strong, convincing backdrop for the MC. The result is one of the best LitRPG books released for this year.

The author delivers a fantastic story. It is well written, with engaging characters and has a good level of development. The game system is coherent and there are no glaring disconnects.The main character starts as an obnoxious guild master who is overthrown and cursed into reincarnation as a level one goblin. The story covers his trials and tribulations as he refuses to give up and stays playing an "unplayable" character instead of letting the backstabbers win!This book is one of my top 10 litrpg stories and I have read almost all on Amazon. Highly recommended to all litrpg fans.

Owen, is high-level adventurer who made his fortune inventing spells and has gotten used to the good life, basically as the CEO of a in-game corporation with tons of lackeys and underlings to do the hard work, and the most powerful guy around. And then he gets backstabbed by the underling he trusted the most - transformed into a goblin, a cannon fodder mob, and murdered to respawn in a lousy goblin-filled cave in the wilderness with none of his equipment or spells. Out of the game, he decides to risk staying as a goblin despite the fact that it was never designed as a player race and the bugs he uncovers might fry his brain, because it represents a unique chance to get his revenge.The book's crunchier than a bowl of Grape Nuts, with Owen checking his stats constantly (I could do with less of that) and most of it emphasizes strategy as he tries to build his clan of weak, kinda dumb goblins into a town with a decent fighting force. He receives a great deal of help from "Vic", a virtual intelligence - a personality created by the game's AI to run NPCs who has a beef with his "dad" - and whose existence hints at a greater overreaching plot.Overall I quite enjoyed it & would recommend it. I liked the atypical choice of a goblin hero. It puts Owen at a terrible disadvantage and he has a long struggle ahead of him, even when he's at his highest point he's got to dig deep and fight hard for success. And he hasn't even yet made it back to the human lands, where he's likely to be killed on sight! There's a good balance of crafting and battle as he progresses, and watching a town grow from the ground up is fun, especially if you like Civilization or SimCity type games. This is the first book and the sequel hasn't been published yet, but it ends after a satisfying battle, and the hints of shady stuff going on with the game company, the AI and their grievences, and of course Owen's revenge plot leave plenty of suspense for the next one, which I will definitely be picking up.A few crits. There are enough spelling/formatting errors to be noticeable, but not enough to really disrupt the read. Like I mentioned, there are a LOT of charts, not just Owen but the various goblins and their new town as it grows. Reading it on a little Kindle screen can get tiresome. There are also some unwarranted sexist and one rather racist remarks that add nothing to the story and could easily be excised. The main problem I found is that Owen's goblin love interest, his new clan's hunter, starts out interesting but then basically devolves into something to snuggle up with him in bed at night, they literally have almost no conversation beyond a certain point so it's hard to feel he honestly loves her enough to go on a roaring rampage of revenge at the end - he has much more involved interaction with the goblins' elderly, bad-tempered cook! But this is fairly typical of action-adventure type books so I doubt most readers would be bothered by it.
