Many books discuss the concept of thinking better but this is the first one I've ever read that actually nails it and tells you how to do it in real life versus situations that will never be relevant to you. favorite chapter was the first where it talked about the 4 big obstacles to clear thinking, i thought it was a great way of categorizing everything.books should be more for "laypeople" (sounds insulting lol) and all of us reading are laypeople, so i don't know why other books cite study after cite and end up like textbooks. they are so boring but this book had the right balance of insight and tips straight from science.i tend to use the bill nye corollary -- if it is entertaining and also helpful then its a win!
Easy to find tips to apply to my life which is my measure of a book. Does it make me think after I read it, will I remember it, and will I be able to use anything from it? TLE checks all the boxes.Spoiler alert... the riddles at the beginning and end of the book made me feel really silly for not realizing the answers. Just goes to show there are different ways of thinking outside the box, and you'll learn many here.
If Einstein's brain was as dry, complicated and uninspiring as presented in this book, his discoveries were truly remarkable. The problem, I feel, is that the presentation is rather boring and hard to listen through. Maybe that's what it takes to Think Like Einstein, but I suspect his thought process was more interesting than presented here. Possibly, I'm just not smart enough.
Very little fluff here, all meat and bones. Like everyone I wish better thinking could be as easy as learning a few tricks. Spoiler alert, it's not. They don't exist. Instead, learn like einstein gives you an incredibly huge list of techniques to think better. It is a HUGE list. This is only bad for me right now because they are all new to me and the farthest thing from habits which makes them difficult. I really loved the little bits about einstein and his thought experiments.
A lot of information in a compact form. Will this help you think outside of your current boundaries, probably not. An interesting read nonetheless.
This is the absolute worst book I have ever read. Poor writing, bogus material, stupid mistakes that should have been corrected in proof reading which there obviously wasn't any. How about this from page from page 58..."When the Orville brothers brainstormed the first airplanes..." The Orville brothers, really? This is hardly thinking like Einstein. And how about this one, "When horses were conceived of, they were thought to be horseless carriages"Don't waste your money on this fool.
This book is a collection oft Main ideas concerning thought and memory. If you are astute inthese areas this book may habe nothing to offer. If you are beging to investigate these topics this book may be agood place to Start.
There are some very practical boots in the middle, which are laid out very concisely. For example, the prescription for spaced repetition is excellent. There are a number of things that feel a quite meandering that don't seem to come to a nice point. The distinctions between the different parts of the systems if thought feel a bit muddled at points. The descriptions of the different logical fallacies are pretty approachable, though sooner of the examples are too trivial to flesh out the more subtle distinctions. My largest complaint is the often contradictory advice is not prescribed specifically enough. The author could do more to make clear that one must never use unrelated ideas and consequences when evaluation evidence and arguments, but that this can be appropriate when searching for new creative solutions to problems. The advice is in different chapters, but there is no mention of the fact that we had been told I'm a previous chapter that these practices are examples of unclear thinking to be avoided at all costs. While I have significant issues with some of the presentation, the underlying concepts in the book are quite good. If you're willing to reorganize it in your mind, and make sure you know when to apply the different bits, there is a lot of good stuff in there.
