I'm a hydrology student in a rigorous program, and I used this text for a graduate course. I'm slightly biased, because when I first decided to study hydrology I checked this book out of the library and tried to give it a go, but it was mostly incomprehensible to me because I didn't yet have the math background to understand it. I thought the integral symbol was a fancy S. Now that I've used it in a class, I think it's my favorite textbook, but I'm also probably just kind of stoked that I can now understand every bit of it!The best thing about it in my opinion is that it includes lots of "optional" sections in a different font, so if you want or need to know more about a specific derivation or relationship, it's laid out very well, but if you aren't interested you can just skip forward to the next main section. I will still refer to Dingman and Freeze & Cherry for some things, but because I've already been over both of those books in other classes, this one felt like a slightly more intense version, with greater detail and better organization than Dingman.

This textbook is a widely recommended hydrology primer for first year grad students or late undergrads and for this role I think it is written well. Students would benefit from taking a rigorous course in fluid mechanics (with solutions to ODEs, PDEs) before this one, though I do not think there are any other prerequisites. My reservations with this book are two-fold:1. I found the section on atmospheric turbulence to be relatively confusing and poorly written in explaining the physical interpretation of turbulent flux transfers.2. Many times, the author skips algebra steps which are not intuitive--and I say this as a student with an undergraduate degree in physics--and is overly fond of saying "trivial" and "clearly" and "with a quick transformation" and so on.I would personally recommend Dingman's physical hydrology book though this one is satisfactory.

Interesting reference. I gave it three stars because it is not easy to read on my Kindle fire.

This textbook is absolutely fantastic! It covers all of the mathematical analysis and their derivations in a clear and concise manner. In addition, the book is written in literary prose and filled with wonderful factoids regarding hydrology. Definitely two thumbs up!

The book was in pretty good shape. No writing inside and the sides were just a little worn.

As mentioned by a previous low reviewer, this book is not truly an "introduction" in the way we typically consider introductory material. Brutsaert assumes you know your calculus and how to apply it. However, the book is absolutely grade A material for those interested in fundamental concepts of hydrologic sciences of any kind. Any class emphasizing this as the primary text will be excellent (assuming the professor can keep pace and delve into the subject matter).

I don't know Phil nor Gemori personally, so I don't have any particular bias. I had a subscription to Phil's online dictionary (tahititataou) several years ago, and with all due respect to Phil, I disagree with his review that this book is simply a copy of his web site or that it is only for tourists.There is information on Phil's website that is not in this book and vice versa. For the most relevant material, this book covers most of what Phil's website covers.It explains the importance of tatau in polynesian culture, it explains the symbolism, it explains how one might go about selecting symbols, and it provides case studies.The latter, case studies, shows example tataus and breaks them down into the individual symbols. Phil's site does this too but not as well in my opinion.The one thing that Phil's site provides that is rather useful is a list of names and contact info for well known top polynesian tattooists around the world.My only three criticisms for this ebook are:1. Table of contents do not let you jump quickly to the chapters.2. Although it describes how one might go about designing one's tatau it does not mention a more important method- which is what you would really experience if you went to a polynesian tattooist. The tattooist will not usually ask you what specific symbols you want. Instead the tattooist will interview you and draw by hand his interpretation of what you tell them directly on your skin (no flash, just freehand). Then with your approval he will begin the tattooing. The tattooist chooses the symbols, not you. You and the tattooist enter a trust relationship and afterwards you will find that the outcome is even better than you could have imagined. I believe both Phil's website and this book underestimates how well a skilled tattooist can design something that is so much more aesthetically pleasing than you can.3. The book is an advertising tool for its own website. But considering the low cost of the ebook and the amount of information received, I think the advertising in the book is tolerable.Overall for the amount of money you pay for the ebook, it is well worth it. I can understand why Phil is concerned. He charges significantly more for a subscription, but not for substantially more information. I'm sorry Phil but I'm just being honest. Your website introduced me to the beauty of polynesian tattooing, but I think overall this book gives you better value for the money spent.

I’m part Hawaiian, specifically 25%, which is a rather large hunk of my DNA. The only thing is, I’m as pale as paper with natural red hair. I want to show pride in my heritage, but living in Texas, there aren’t that many reliable Polynesian artists. I bought this book to get better insight on how to style my tattoo. If I can find inspiration on how I want my tattoo to look, I can sketch it out, so then all the tattoo artist will have to do is clean it up and help me adjust the design to fit my body. This book is informative, with specific details, and has the traditional bold Polynesian style. If these tattoos are your thing, I highly recommend a copy of this.

Really great book. The illustrations really help you understand the tattoos. I just with they had more and covered more meanings, but overall really great. Helped me to design my own tattoo with meaning, rather than some generic design.

The book covers several different Polynesian tattoo styles, but jumps between their descriptions, which could confuse some. Over all, a decent primer for those curious about Polynesian designs and their meanings. The text is large and easy to read, and concepts are very simplified. Don't expect to be an expert, but this book proves to be a good first step to understanding the culture and meaning behind various Polynesian elements of tattoo.

Though I know it is impossible to have every symbol in this book. If you have a Polynesian tattoo it can help you understand some of the symbols. I don’t like that it is so small book. They could have elaborated more. But it is a goo start. You can use this book before or after you get your tattoo to help gain knowledge on what you want to get

This book is really great for someone wanting to create their own tattoo. I'm currently designing my own tradtional hawaiian tattoo and this is helping me so much. It give you details of polynesian tattoos, such as meaning of placement on the body, as well as the different "symbols". Teaches you how to create/breakdown a tattoo. How to incorprate what you want into the tattoo (i.e. like if you want to represent family, what symbol to use). I would definatly reccomend this book.

Although 26 nations had already granted their female citizens the vote, it wasn't until 1920 that MOST American women could partake in national elections.In 1848, Seneca Falls, NY hosted the First Women's Rights Convention. Based on the Declaration of Independence, the attendees drafted 8 sentiments of equal rights that women desired. It was a man, Frederick Douglass, who urged the Convention to add a 9th sentiment: the right to vote. Douglass asserted that true citizenship could not be attained without the right to the ballot. With this, the Suffragette movement in the USA was born.The Susan B. Anthony Amendment (#19) passed by one vote in both houses of Congress in 1919. Within a year, a two-thirds majority of the existing states needed to ratify the Amendment i.e. 36 states. By June of 1920, 9 states rejected the Amendment, 3 states refused to even consider ratification, and 35 states ratified the Amendment. (The reader will be amazed at which states voted no.) The fate of women's suffrage was left to ratification in the Tennessee legislature. The author introduces fascinating details about the many players in this drama: Tennessee politicians, Republican and Democrat, a sitting President and candidates running in the 1920 Presidential election, Anti-Suffragettes and Suffragettes. (What a shock to learn that both Eleanor Roosevelt and Edith Wilson were on the side of the Anti's!) Many of the Suffragettes had earned their political chops as Abolishionists. They were fighting for the vote for all women regardless of race. Anti's raised the alarm about the dissipation of state's rights and the polluting nature of politics on motherhood and southern family life. They preached to the prejudice against Negro women having the vote. Tensions mounted in the Tennessee summer heat, as both sides exhorted to lies, influence peddling and bribery. By whom and how were legislators in both Tennessee houses influenced? The vote was a cliff hanger!Ten million women voted for the first time on November 2,1920, but two states denied black women the right to vote. From Boston to Orlando, barriers were created to prevent black women from voting and some blacks, men and women, were killed in their attempts to vote. In Chapter 23, entitled Election Day, Weiss chronicles the delayed suffrage for other minorities in America. She highlights the current political efforts to disenfranchise blocs of US citizens. The battle for the ballot, begun so long ago, rages on.

This would be a good doctoral dissertation because it is meticulously researched but it is so detailed as to become mind numbingly boring. In the end, I could only skim it. I stumbled onto interesting parts but most of it just wasn't. The main take away is that we are still living through the same attempts to limit the vote much of it on the basis of race.

This was a thoroughly-enjoyable book. Weiss’s prose really breathes life into history, so much so that you feel like you really understand what makes so many of the women and men she writes about tick. Weiss also does a nice job of applying an intersectional and critical lens to the history of women’s suffrage. It was fascinating to read about the deep and complex relationships between Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony in particular. I found it a bit spooky (and comforting?) to learn just how closely the US political and social environment in the early 1900s parallels where we are today. Down to a 1920s Kellyanne Conway(!). It was so powerful to come away with a sense of just how many women have contributed (and continue to contribute) to the advancement of women’s rights since the birth of our nation. I feel more connected to the ongoing American story than ever before. After reading this book I purchased 10 copies for girlfriends of mine. It is an absolute travesty that women are essentially erased from the American historical narrative. If we actually learned the full story of America during our civic lessons in school, we’d be a much better nation for it.

The author's exhaustive research was obvious. She introduced us to some truly committed and courageous individuals who paved the way for all women in this country. Because the reader knows the ending, however, the details become somewhat cumbersome and will have a tendency to skim which is unfortunate.Most interesting was the interplay between the civil rights goals for blacks and the demands of the suffragettes. It seems like women's rights have always taken a back seat throughout history. A continuing struggle even in the 21st century.

I bought this some time ago but chose to read this now as a nod to Womens History Month. It summarizes the American suffrage movement and specifically focuses on the battle in Tennessee to be the 36th state to pass the 19th amendment in 1920, the last state ratification needed to add it to the U.S. Constitution. I found it a useful read as it reminded of the nexus between the abolition, temperance, suffrage, and progressive movements for much of the latter part of the 19th century. Sadly, it also tells of the internecine battles these movements had and the racism cynically invoked to further their own agendas. Not a finest hour whatever the reason for the tactic.Stylistically, the story was workmanlike---- competently handled but not elevated or incisive. I thought it too much of a journalist's account with occasional near-forays into character thoughts. This was not so much a distraction as it was a detriment to the subject. Building suspense in a timeline for which the outcome is known is a tricky business and I don't think the author succeeded despite the novelesque plotting. Still, a worthwhile if not an exceptional read.

What a never-give-up fight! What persistence, bravery, and, at times, humiliation, women suffered for MY right to vote. An exciting book which makes me appreciate the foundation that we have been given to make progress in the fight for all people who are not white male to have the rights to reach their potential, to live their lives as God intended. Fabulous book, and, believe me, it is not a “dull” history book!

One of the most exciting books I've read in recent years, even when I already knew how it ends! Although I knew the amendment did get ratified, things definitely did not look good and I couldn't figure out how they were going to pull it out. What a wonderful story that everyone should know. Thanks, Ms. Weiss, for telling it so eloquently.

And then there was one girl left. In the previous two books in the series Michelle had a front row seat of seeing her BFFs Jan and Sammi find their happily ever after now it is her turn to shine. What is interesting about Michelle is that she seems to be so “put together” & a strict rule follower at least to the outside world. Then enters CJ who comes and mixes it up for her. The pairing is interesting because relationship outlook was deeply affected by their respective parents’ marriages. I won’t give away too much, but I think in the end their pairing put things in perspective for both characters. Some characters got away a little too easy, but that’s just my opinion. Overall, I really liked this book and the mention of a certain character from a previous book. As always, I am looking forward to the next adventure from the author.

First off,I'm sad that this trilogy is over. I absolutely loved reading about these three best friends. One of the reasons I love reading Nadia Lee's books is because I feel like I can relate to some of the personalities and also because I tend to get lost in the stories. I really loved this book because I felt such a strong connection with Michelle. I seriously have Pinterest boards about my dream wedding and what I want in life (not binders like her, but close enough). There just aren't enough words to explain how much I truly enjoyed this books!

Michelle works two jobs and long hours seeking her perfect man and wedding. Also her mother's approval, which never comes. Then CJ appears in her life the best lover, a driven billionaire, a perfect body, and personality but never wants to get married. Both with past emotions that screw with their heads drives them. CJ the player wants Michelle who at first does not want him. The hunt begins. A fun LOVE story with twists and turns keeps you reading. The whole trilogy was great.

A funny romantic comedy with some sad parts. I enjoyed all three books in this series. While the ending was really good, I would have thought the author would have put a good happy epilog telling about the three best friends and how their futures ended up. As well as all three couples should have signed pushups especially how their parents were. A romance for everyone to enjoy.

Michelle and CJ were the perfect couple!This story was full of love and life. So many people feel this way until they find their "one".Amazing job Nadia Lee! Cant ait to see what's next!

CJ was in love and didn't know it. Michelle was a rule followed and stood her ground. Both characters outlook on marriage was based on their experience with their parents. I thought both pairs were odd. Glad they found their HEA.

Each determines to live their lives based on preconceived notions about relationships. They stumble their way through to their own HEA.

I liked the humor, the characters and the story. All 3 stories were quick and easy to read. And of course, who doesn't love a happy ending.

LYDDIE is an excellent little book--182 pages--which is very readable and well suited for use in a middle school to let adolescents appreciate an important part of American social history,some aspects of which are, unfortunately, not absent from our society even today. The attitude that resulted in the treatment of factory workers in Lyddie's lifetime is clearly present in our own times in the twenty-first century when today's workers experience poverty despite their spending long hours working for low wages. This novel LYDDIE was written very well and includes words and expressions that an intelligent child should learn to understand. The story is captivating and makes kids (and adults!) want to continue reading and also crave to find out "what happened next!" once they regretfully reach the last paragraph!

I read so many books as a kid but this one stood out. The story is interesting but also sad as it paints a picture of what children did to keep a family going. I recently got it for my preteen daughter who is struggling with adolescence. The story helped me find my own strength when I was her age and I'm hoping it does the same for her.

I am teaching Lyddie for the first time this year. It is part of the NYS common core curriculum, and I am reading it to 7th grade boys - the best review I can give it is they were enthralled as I read the first chapter to them! I read the whole book and I loved it! It's a captivating story that keeps you wondering throughout if she will ever get her family back together.

This is a wonderful book to introduce young people today to "how it was" in an earlier time. Katherine Paterson brings a young girl to life who is determined, smart, and who has a steadfast work ethic. You want to cry when she is separated from her family to work, and at the same time admire her and laugh with joy at her ability to defend herself and continue to hope for her family to be together again. My Grandma was a weaver back in the early 1900's, and I read a chapter of this to her each week. She loved it, too. It's a book I've given to all of my nieces, as well.

My granddaughter liked this and read it really fast. Good historical fiction.

Loved this story. My daughter's 7th grade class is reading so I ordered this book and it is now working it's way through most of my co-workers as well. Very well written.

This is a page turner of the highest order. I lost sleep, unable to find a stopping place, because the plot twists like a snake and the action never stops. At first the action is fast-paced and incredibly tense. I was absorbed by the interaction of the well-defined characters and the twists of the story line. But then, when I was so involved in the story that I couldn't bear to look away, their lives become even more tense, while the action slashes and soars across solar systems, between stars and nebulae. Some chapter sets could have stood alone as novelettes. I picked up this book after reading some of Larson's 'The Undying Mercenaries'. In Undying Mercenaries, there were some moral issues I gritted my teeth to avoid disbelieving, but the protagonists in the 'Galactic Liberation' series reflect values I'd expect in military people, and the antagonists are antagonizingly evil. If you love space based sci-fi, this series is a winner that will take readers back to E.E. Doc Smith and the Lensman series. Do it!

Straker (the Liberator) is a powerful champion in the fight against the control of the Hundred Worlds, and his wife, Admiral Carla Engels is a superior commander of space fleets. However, the most interesting character is Trinity, who I will leave for you to suss out for yourself. There is a tendency in this book for everything to become at least one level more complicated than necessary for a good story, but if you stick with it you will enjoy it.

This series just keeps getting better and better!!! It changes and evolves and is a new different story each time! I love it and it only gets better when you read it a second time. Do yourself a favor and add the Audible narration and hear this too!!! It's worth it to support BVL and DV to create great reads like this. Don't forget to put up some stars and review to show your support!!!

B.V. Larson is one of my favorite sci-fi writets and this book doesn't fail to keep in it's grip. I would higly recommend, altough works best if you read the whole series. Book has a a good combination of action, philosophy, humor, some romance, politicis, behind the scenes maneuvering.Only problem I have with this writer that he has so many good series and settings that I like, msking it difficult to know for which one I'd like the next book be set in :)

I like this series, but I don't love it.Basically, there is a lot going on. Sometimes it seems like there's too much. This thing turns into Games of Thrones in space sometimes.That being said, I do like where the series is headed.

As we have come to love, the breakneck pace of these books doesn't stop in the third of the series.Spy missions, new enemies, space battles galore, a revealing of the "true" threat? It doesn't let up for a moment!Book 4 is going to be insane!!!

While not the deepest of story lines, this book kept me entertained and wanting for more.Of the books in this series, I probably liked this one the most as it had more complex/ thought provoking subject matter.I would highly recommend this book for some one looking for a great quick read.

Loved the three book series. An excellent collaboration between the two authors. I have really enjoyed evey book of every serires B V Larson has written and now I have another author to follow. The book hints at another sequel; I hope it comes soon.

I am saddened by what I read in this book. It raises the awareness of how greed plays a huge part in the destruction of cultures. It touched my heart and because of it I will raise my voice to those who will listen. Big governments need to STOP exploiting smaller countries. Hawaii belongs to the Hawaiians. Not the tourist and the companies that took advantage of these innocent and trusting people. We need to return their soverienty back to them, give them back their lands and let them run their country. Read this book if you truly care about a culture in distress.
