Agile Project Management with Kanban by Eric Brechner is very different from the last two books about Kanban I have had an opportunity to read recently (Kanban in Action and Kanban from the Inside). It is about good, old and infamous Project Management, something, what many Agile or Lean orthodox people call bad and dead. It briefly presents precise and actionable ways how to apply Kanban as a tool for organizations of different kind and size. Despite being written by a guy who worked for a huge product development organization (Xbox/Microsoft), the book manages to escape insanely popular trend of telling how to scale Kanban, just as consulting business suggests to scale Scrum or Agile. Instead it meets the reality of any software or product development teams, which do not work independently. We had a supposed (certified) scrum master where I worked last but being my first experience with it, I was shocked how unproductive our processes were. Our bug tracking software (Fogbugz) included a Kanban board which got me interested in researching the subject which ultimately led to this wonderful book. After reading it, I have to admit I think this is going to be better than scrum. Can't wait to try it out. This book is highly recommended!

I did not think Kanban would apply to the company I am at, but I am completely convinced that Kanban is actually a big improvement over basic SCRUM. We find the folks learning Scrum keep turning SCRUM into some Agile looking waterfall by extending the sprints and slipping the delivery dates. This book shows in a very practical way how to implement and measure Kanban

Eric's book is quite the intro to Kanban. We watched his talk on YouTube first and then purchased his book and eventually converted our whole team over to Kanban from SCRUM. We couldn't be happier with the results so far.

The book covers the basics and attempts to provide guidance for the move the the new methodology. It is easy to read, the writing enthusiastic and interesting examples are littered throughout the book. It doesn't try to be the single source of all knowledge for Kanban, but offers up recommendations if more detailes are needed, which I personally find refreshing.If you are looking for a good introduction to the Kanban method, you have found the right book!

If you're like me, you went through first- and second-year medical school classes wondering why there was less embryology than you expected. Granted, my school doesn't have a dedicated embryology course, but still, I figured there would be more discussion of the development of each structure than there was. Freaking out about the possibility that I didn't really understand embryology as Step 1 approached, I bought this book. Turns out I was mistaken.I'm not saying this book is bad in any way — it isn't. Rather, I just don't feel it's necessary for most medical students. I read First Aid and always felt the Embryology of each section was probably dumbed down — surely you couldn't reduce embryology of the heart to a few pages? Well, you can... as long as your goal is to cover only material that's highest yield and most relevant for medical school (and more particularly, the Step 1).The long and short of it is that almost nothing in this book is going to be new if you paid attention in your courses and read First Aid. It's obviously not a textbook, but it's also not a hugely better board review resource than stringing together all the Embryology sections from First Aid. For Step 1 purposes, the material in First Aid is enough. If you like the High-Yield series format or want to focus on one discipline at a time, there's really nothing wrong with this book. Meanwhile, if you're a medical student pleased with First Aid and just want to learn what's relevant and might show up on the boards, you don't need this. I read this virtually cover to cover but don't feel it was critical to my understanding of boards embryology. (For what it's worth, I ended up scoring ~95th percentile on Step 1.)

A little torn, but good book to read for embryo.

This is a decent review but that is it. If your trying to learn any of the topics for the first time I would suggest Langmans. I've only really read 2 chapters and there has been a few typos. If you haven't read langman's or have a very strong background in embryo this book is probably not for you.

The book is very simplistic and meant as a quick overview of embryological development. I find myself frequently consulting a textbook for clarification, but the book does provide a good, quick review of the high yield concepts in embryology.

Perfect for STEP 1. Even has little questions at the end of every chapter to help illustrate the material in a STEP style clinical vignette.

This book will take through the basics, from an end user/site owners perspective, and show you how to do most things that end users regularly do in SharePoint like create lists, export lists to a spreadsheet, adding webparts to a page or removing them etc.The book is split into 15 chapters with each chapter covering a different topic from the very basic navigating around SharePoint (how to get to site settings, view all site contents etc) through to a basic overview of content management (document sets, creating page layouts etc.) The book is meant as a hands on guide, laying out a scenario then showing you how to implement that scenario. There are numerous screenshots throughout each chapter showing you what you should see on the screen for that particular step in the scenario which makes each scenario very easy to follow along with.This book is squarely aimed at the new user to SharePoint and can be thought of as a precursor to the "Inside Out" series of books from Microsoft which are a little more advanced but still squarely aimed at the end user.So the question you really need to ask yourself is how well do you know SharePoint 2013? If you are new to SharePoint then this is a good guide showing you the basics of what it does and giving you enough information to get you up and running with a basic site. If you have used SharePoint previously and are fairly comfortable with its use then this is not the book for you.Recommended for the target audience it covers.

Clear and concise. A great book for understanding SharePoint. I bought the book specifically for setting up workflows and it proved an invaluable resource.

Very helpful with a program that has so much variability and usability. I'm far from being technologically proficient, but have found this book very helpful in learning to work with a program needed for some volunteer work. You can pick the area you need to know about--don't try to read it cover to cover.

These books are the best for self learning or teaching.

I have read several books by Penelope Coventry. I like reading one chapter per night and be able to understand main points and capabilities. Every step is well explained and has screen shot. The process is very repeatable. I hate reading a programming book and try the exercise and write it exactly as the book says, and it blows up! It is frustrating and then you spend days trying to get it to work only to find someone did a registry hack to get it to work. You won't find this in Penelope's book. Everything works. It provides good insights into the product. It is just the right length that if you do a chapter a night, you won't be up till 2AM. I am currently reading E Carter's Visual Studio and the chapters are 70 to 80 pages. Not an easy read. I prefer Penelope's books!

This book was honestly a powerhouse for me. Although I enjoyed the first 2 books this one was the best so far. There were quite a few surprises in it. In this book Jim is in some trouble along with Derrick. We know her real father, Roland is in the picture and its not good. Although no appearances he sends someone in his stead. The flirting between Curran and Kate. There were some downright laugh out loud moments in this book. I smiled really big in a lot of parts. For example when Kate was having lunch with Andrea and Raphael and she was spouting her “Can I” speech about Curran and he happened to be standing behind her. I was just WAITING for that promise of Kate’s when she threw out there if Curran found them within the 3 days she’d cook him dinner and serve it naked for him. I was NOT disappointed when that came back and bit her in the butt at the end. Now, I will say that although Curran and Kate dont seal the deal in this book they get really close. Dont get me wrong the thing between them didn’t diminish the book at all. It wasn’t a focal point. Just little moments here and there. Illona is brilliant and her world building and details in this book were just absolutely brilliant! We meet a new species Rakshasa’s. They are some interesting beasts. Very off putting and that’s putting it mildly. They eat their victims no matter what species they are. As I mentioned Derrick is in trouble again and gets himself into something real nasty with them. Kate tries to help him but once she realizes how bad it is…its too late. Derrick is horribly hurt and is dying. I was really emotional just as Kate was. She’s gotta figure out how to save him because he’s like her brother. Kate is vulnerable in regards to Derrick and we see how much she hates that she shows it. Jim was pretty well calling the shots in this book only because it was his team and he defied The Beast Lord and that so wasn’t good. Curran really surprised me in this book. I wont say anymore but hopefully you’ll understand what I mean when you read it. Saiman is back. I’ve liked him in other books and it was super awesome to learn so much more about him. I still dont trust him but he proved an ally so far. We also saw a very vulnerable side of him. This whole book had me going from beginning to end. I am buying this series on audio as well and honestly I love the narrator. Renee Raudman. Her voices for the different characters are great! I’m so impressed because not all narrators can pull it off! The deep timber and bass of the male voices. You can still tell it’s a female narration but honestly she does good! Dr. Doolittle is in this book a lot as well. He’s a much needed appearance. I wont give away anything else but I highly recommend reading this series because its constantly something new in each book.

There are many good authors of Paranormal/Fantasy stories. For me, Edgar Allen Poe and Isaac Asimov, as a young reader, helped to form my interest in this genre. Later years, Stephen King and Dean Koontz among others, have kept me reading and enjoying it!Now I am older and still reading. My daughter, who is an avid reader like me, introduced me to Ilona Andrews and the Kate Daniels series! This is my second time reading the series. Enjoying it even more!I read to be entertained. I want to know the characters, what they look like, their personalities, what they believe in, how they come to the decisions they have to make, to learn about their world they live in. I do get into their lives!I believe the Kate Daniels series has everything I look for in the stories I love to read! I gauge how well I like a story by the difficulty I have leaving the story. I have even risked a full bladder to finish a chapter before I go empty said bladder...and it was close! Have I had a few "all-nighters"? Yep!The authors have a wonderful talent and are able to take me into Kate Daniels' world and leave my world for a little while! They rate as one of my favorite authors of all time!

This series keeps getting better and better!Magic Strikes is the third book in the Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrews and in this book Kate finds herself in another situation where her life is at risk, but this time she's helping Saiman after he captured Derek trying to steal passes into the forbidden and illegal Midnight Games. When Kate starts to find out more about the Midnight Games she realizes why it is illegal, and why Jim and his security team are hiding information from Curran and she's stuck right in the middle.Throughout this entire book I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen, and why everyone seemed to be after the pack. I hated Saiman for the situation he put Derek and Kate in. I wanted to hate Derek as well, but my heart broke for him and what he goes through in this book. His heart was in the right place, but he just went about everything in the wrong way.This book is definitely a lot more action packed than the previous books, and the Curran and Kate story-line definitely gets interesting in this book. I really am rooting for these two to figure things out and I have a feeling things are about to get more heated between them.Without giving anything away, things about Kate are revealed in this book and even though things may have been hinted before you definitely find out who she is and what she is. I was a bit shocked, but at the same time it all made sense. I am definitely more intrigued now with where this series is going, and I have a feeling things are definitely going to be a lot more action packed and bloodier going forward, especially with the setup in this book with the characters introduced.I truly enjoyed the story telling in Magic Strikes the most out of the series, and the story line. I adored Kate and Curran's banter and how they seem to push each others buttons over and over again, I have a feeling once Kate finally gives in, it is going to be epic. I can't wait to see where this series goes next and will definitely be purchasing the next book asap!
