I ordered this book TWICE and both times it was misprinted (blank sections, missing Hebrew), and shoddily printed (it looks like POD -- should say so). I returned it with sadness!

This series is indispensable for bringing intention and meaning to tefilah and davenning

Good read but useless as a siddur

on the major Shabbat home prayers, especially the Kiddushes and Havdalah. The commentaries are from a variety of perspectives, both ideological (Reform, Orthodox, and Conservative) and subject matter (Tanach, feminist, halachic, theological, historical, etc.). I found the halachic commentary to be the most interesting, since it is of the most practical value for anyone seeking to observe Shabbat.One thing I would have changed: the 30 pages spent on Shabbat table songs. Because different families use such a wide variety of songs, any attempt to focus on three or four of them is likely to miss a lot of songs used by lots of people, and to use a lot of songs that lots of people have never heard of. I would have preferred to see the extra space spent on Birkat Hamazon (the blessing after meals) since that prayer is almost universally said after Shabbat meals.

As a R language programmer, I'd like a book so clear, concise, to the task and motivational as Russell's but for R . Worth every dollar

Agile and "Science" are the anthesis of each other. Science is a commitment to rationalism. Agile is a word unintelligent people use when trying to appear intelligent to other unintelligent people.So to set the record straight, I read this book cover-to-cover (unusual for me). I found it to be practical, well organized, insightful at times and overall a good introduction to the topic of Data Science.I would like to clear up something not about this book but about our entire culture-- that always wants something for nothing. You will NOT be generating deep insights about your business effortlessly or quickly. By definition, these things are difficult and time-consuming.So buy this book and get started.

This book attempts to introduce a new methodology for analytics product development. And within this scope, I feel that the book accomplishes it's stated goal. Although somewhat lengthy, the flow of information within this book stays focused on the critical path to the end product while covering documentation, facilitation, exploration, and discovery. A reappearing theme of aligning data science with the rest of the organization is present throughout.After the obligatory introductory chapters, the book introduces a suite of tools used for the remaining chapters. These include Jupyter Notebooks, Python 3, Spark, sci-kit learn, and lightweight web applications. The data it introduces is the OpenFlights Database that is freely available from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics followed by weather datasets available from NOAA. The first goal is to use the tools and the data to predict flight delays.With this setup, the book continues with detailed studies of collecting and displaying records, visualizing data, exploration of data, making predictions, deploying predictive systems, and improvements. I appreciated how the book followed the same datasets throughout as it moved through all the stages it's proposed methodology. Overall, a solid addition to the data science library.

At the outset, author Russell Jurney describes his intended audience: “Agile Data Science is intended to help beginners and budding data scientists to become productive members of data science and analytics teams. It aims to help engineers, analysts, and data scientists work wth big data in an agile way using Hadoop. It introduces an agile methodology well-suited for big data”. In my opinion, he achieves all of his goals. As a computer forensics specialist, I always deal with data. What has changed in the past two decades is the scale of the data I have to analyze. We’ve come a long way from analyzing a few megabytes of data. Now, the possibility exists that I may have to deal with petabytes of data to find what I am looking for – or confirm its absence. To that extent I have to deal with people who tell me things can’t be done, usually within an adversarial relationship. What this book does for me in a big way is clarifying the process of getting from here to there. Jurney describes the process clearly and in great deal. While I am not exactly the intended audience, I think those who are will benefit greatly from this book.Jerry

I am reviewing a copy of "Agile Data Science 2.0" by Russell Jurney that I received at no cost through the Amazon Vine program.Working in a data science group in I.T., we've had a lot of conversations about how I.T. operating approaches - agile, devOps, PMO - apply to data science. Data Science tasks are different in that not all work is intended to lead to functioning software, as well as the strongly-iterative approach that is necessary to deliver results to stakeholders in a way that discrete units of software might not otherwise be reviewed.Russell Jurney's "Agile Data Science 2.0" goes a long way in moving that conversation in the right direction. I had three target audiences in mind when I acquired this book. The first was our PM, who had worked in I.T. for years as a director and project manager but continued to try to wrap his head around the data science process. The second was a director who was new to the data science process and wanted a better grasp of how to communicate expectations to the team. The third was myself, having spent time in both IT and in research, I had seen the two worlds and wanted a way to help explain how the two mesh.Jurney has offered, as have many data science books, a suggested stack and how to implement it, but the most valuable part of the book I thought was the first two chapters for their emphasis on the agile manifesto for data science, a description of the many roles that go into a team, and highlights of how agile can make for better data science both in terms of research and in terms of products.This is not a text to learn Spark from a developer's perspective but rather to understand how spark can fit in. Spark isn't the only platform, so those using Dask or other tools will still find value here.If the book has a weakness it's the focus on developing a web portal to expose the data science product; this isn't a bad way to do things, not at all, but it's not where our work is going at the moment, so this limits the applicability of some of the chapters. But there's nothing that keeps the book from being useful .. so much so that I honestly don't know whose desk it's sitting on at the moment, since as soon as our PM finished it he gave it to a BA, who gave it to another PM...

I love reading. Always have, always will. But one of the worst ( or best) things you can encounter as a devoted reader is a book that has entirely captured you without the next volume already being available! Please don’t make me wait too long for volume 2! And 3! And 4! Please just write them all!!! The four dragons are wonderfully charming in their own ways and Olivia is blunt and hilarious. It’s truly a believable scenario for how a modern girl/young women would react if she had suddenly been thrown into a marvelous fantasy and I can’t help but completely relate to her reactions and inner dialogue(she and I both use a healthy dose of swearing). Love this and can’t wait for the next! For experienced readers, this book will take you a day or less to read but it’s totslly worth it! The storyline gets a little sexy/scandalous at times so it’s probably suitable for young adults/ adults and not younger readers. What a treat this book was, I recommend it!

Stealing Tranquility is the first book in a wonderful new series by J.L. Weil. Olivia Campbell finds herself unexpectedly homeless when her stepfather throws her out of her home after her mother's death. Struggling to survive, she meets an unexpected savior in the form of dragon shifter Jase Dior. Hoping that Olivia is the one to break the curse placed on his world by an evil witch, Jase rescues Olivia from the streets and brings her back to his home in the Veil Isles. Olivia then meets three other dragon shifters in Zade the fire dragon, Issik the ice prince, and Kieran , who breathes poisonous gasses. Together they work to try to save the Veil Isles. This interesting first foray into the Reverse Harem genre is a departure from the usula romance that J.L. Weil writes. However, as with her other books, it drew me in from the first page and I coul dnot put it down until I had finished it. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment and highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of J.L. Weil's or of the reverse harem genre.

I am in love with 4 dragons! Please come whisk me away, Jase! These guys are freaking hilarious & super frustrating but also super caring to Olivia. I have to say I think Issik is gonna surprise us all with the warmth under that icy exterior, but we'll just have to wait and see. Waiting isn't my strong suit, so can I please have books 2, 3, 4, etc. stat, JL?

I did a buddy read of this book with my good friend, B Truly. Look for her review. This was my first JL Weil book. B is a big fan, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did.What I liked best about it was the dialogue. Olivia's speech is realistic for a girl in her late teens, living on the street. Her world changes for the better when she meets Jase, who takes her to the Veil, a dragon island. Her dragon world reminds me somewhat of the Fae, with the different kingdoms with different seasons. There was only one fire-breathing dragon. The others breathed ice, poison, and even tranquility.I'm not a big fan of reverse harem, but this book didn't go beyond kissing. It's a series so I expect it will be more graphic in future books. Not sure that I'll read the other books in this series, but I am interested in reading some of JL Weil's other books.

What did I dislike? The page count! I loved it so much I didn’t want it to end. Roll on book 2 please!!! I have had this book on my list since the author first mentioned it ... just waiting for it to be released, sadly sometimes when this happens you end up disappointed but if anything I fell in love with it even more than I thought I did... slight book hangover but no regrets!

I bought the book on the kindle and the audiobook. It is a very fun and excellent read for me! J.L. Weil is such a great writer and this new series is just too awesome to pass by. I like how Olivia is not so whiny kind of chick but a more strong kind of heroine. The four dragon shifters: Jase, Kieran, Zade, and Issik are just too funny. I can’t wait for the 2nd book this coming dec 26.

I'm an adult, the main character is a teen, but she is so relatable. Olivia had a hard life and she somehow ends up with sexy Dragon shifters. Odd right? Very believable actually. She is their last hope of Dragon survival. She is sarcastic, and funny to the point i was laughing out loud. Each Dragon has a different power, Jase's is tranquility breath and he has put Olivia to sleep or calmed her against her will. The sexual tension between her and the 4 dragons (yes all 4) has you wondering what's going to happen next. Oh and did I mention the witch that put the curse on the dragons a century ago and wants them dead? Now she wants Olivia dead too. This was so good and exciting, I immediately bought the next book "Absorbing Poison" !

J.L. Well has done it again. I read this book in one day. Well told me a story that sucked me into a completely new world. Olivia is a strong heroine with four hot dragons on her side. There is romance, magic, and of course a baddie!! Cannot wait for the next book!!

This hardcover edition contains volumes 1&2 and some additional artwork. I think the hardcover is absolutely beautiful and eye catching. The hot pink with holo title is just so striking, I'm excited to display it on my coffee table now that I've read it. As for the graphic novel itself, I am so hooked! It's extremely compelling and entertaining, full of interesting characters, WTF moments, and plot twists. I was so engrossed in the story, I found myself disappointed when it ended and ran out to get Volume 3 immediately. Overall, I think this was a great purchase and was well worth the money. I certainly hope they do another hardcover edition with volumes 3&4!

Vaughan seems to have the ability to delight the reader with unexpected plot changes. Paper Girls is full of delights. Delightful is also a descriptive of Cliff Chiang's artistry and Matt Willson's colors. Jared Fletcher keeps it all rolling with steady as she goes word balloon placement and lettering.

Paper Girls is an excellent read! I highly recommend to check it out if you haven’t already. This Deluxe Edition is fantastic for current fans looking to add to their collection but also the best way for new readers to experience the story for the first time. Beautiful pages for a great story. Can’t wait for the next deluxe edition. Already have mine preordered.

ABSOLUTELY love this book so much - I read the first few volumes on digital from my library one Sunday morning and just HAD to have a physical copy of my own to revisit.

This hardcover edition was perfect to add to the Paper Girls collection. I ordered it as an anniversary gift for my fiancé, and he loved it! The quality of printing and binding is great. I was thrilled to see some foil printing on the cover.

I love the look and feel of this volume. I thought he design looks great and the comic itself is great.

Excellent book

Paper Girls Deluxe volume 1 collects the first ten issues of this series, previously collected in two paperback editions.The first volume was an entertaining and intriguing story, and rated as “Teen Plus”, due to the unladylike language used by some of our young paper-delivery girls - unlike so many independent series from big-name writers nowadays who appear to be following the path of Mark Millar (excess piled on excess) in the hopes of hooking a film deal (though even Mr Millar has gone upmarket with his latest entry in the field - “Huck”).Anyway, on the surface, this seems to be a small-town America-based story set in the late 1980s, in which a quartet of paper-delivery girls - the first flowering of female equality at a grass-roots level - find themselves in the middle of a Hollywood-style catastrophe, when the entire population of their town vanishes and some mysterious aliens appear.It turns out, however, that it is more a time than a space invasion - easy enough for us to spot from the outside - but the whys and wherefores are still a mystery, with plenty of cryptic comments flying around to make us want to know more.But - is it all “real” or not? There is no external evidence to tell us what is really going on, so it could easily turn into something even more unexpected, though the writer is more of a ‘real-world’ one than some of the British/Euro weirdos writing for the independents at the moment, so it is probably safe to assume it won’t turn into a William Burroughs existentialist fantasy (see “Zero” and Secret Avengers by Ales Kot for examples of that). That being said, the main character does have some weird dreams, whose cast include (the then topical) President Reagan and the angel of Christa McCauliffe, and there is a lot of “mystical” imagery bobbing about in them; time will tell.The second half reveals that it is apparently more to do with time-travel and factions of time-travellers busy correcting/re-writing history for some arcane purpose as yet unrevealed. However, our quartet are now in 2016, where lead papergirl Erin meets her future self, along with more time-travellers and some giant monsters.So, what is it time-travellers are always told not to do? Well, too late for that now, and older Tiffany - who can’t remember where she got her bullet-scar from - in between fighting chrono-monsters, finding time-lost papergirls, and getting said papergirls to where they need to go, also gives some life-coaching to younger Tif. Time will tell, as they say in these parts.This is a very entertaining story, by a writer and an artist who are experts in their field, and I hope that my local library keeps buying this series so that I can follow the story and find out what is going on.
