This hardcover edition contains volumes 1&2 and some additional artwork. I think the hardcover is absolutely beautiful and eye catching. The hot pink with holo title is just so striking, I'm excited to display it on my coffee table now that I've read it. As for the graphic novel itself, I am so hooked! It's extremely compelling and entertaining, full of interesting characters, WTF moments, and plot twists. I was so engrossed in the story, I found myself disappointed when it ended and ran out to get Volume 3 immediately. Overall, I think this was a great purchase and was well worth the money. I certainly hope they do another hardcover edition with volumes 3&4!

Vaughan seems to have the ability to delight the reader with unexpected plot changes. Paper Girls is full of delights. Delightful is also a descriptive of Cliff Chiang's artistry and Matt Willson's colors. Jared Fletcher keeps it all rolling with steady as she goes word balloon placement and lettering.

Paper Girls is an excellent read! I highly recommend to check it out if you haven’t already. This Deluxe Edition is fantastic for current fans looking to add to their collection but also the best way for new readers to experience the story for the first time. Beautiful pages for a great story. Can’t wait for the next deluxe edition. Already have mine preordered.

ABSOLUTELY love this book so much - I read the first few volumes on digital from my library one Sunday morning and just HAD to have a physical copy of my own to revisit.

This hardcover edition was perfect to add to the Paper Girls collection. I ordered it as an anniversary gift for my fiancé, and he loved it! The quality of printing and binding is great. I was thrilled to see some foil printing on the cover.

I love the look and feel of this volume. I thought he design looks great and the comic itself is great.

Excellent book

Paper Girls Deluxe volume 1 collects the first ten issues of this series, previously collected in two paperback editions.The first volume was an entertaining and intriguing story, and rated as “Teen Plus”, due to the unladylike language used by some of our young paper-delivery girls - unlike so many independent series from big-name writers nowadays who appear to be following the path of Mark Millar (excess piled on excess) in the hopes of hooking a film deal (though even Mr Millar has gone upmarket with his latest entry in the field - “Huck”).Anyway, on the surface, this seems to be a small-town America-based story set in the late 1980s, in which a quartet of paper-delivery girls - the first flowering of female equality at a grass-roots level - find themselves in the middle of a Hollywood-style catastrophe, when the entire population of their town vanishes and some mysterious aliens appear.It turns out, however, that it is more a time than a space invasion - easy enough for us to spot from the outside - but the whys and wherefores are still a mystery, with plenty of cryptic comments flying around to make us want to know more.But - is it all “real” or not? There is no external evidence to tell us what is really going on, so it could easily turn into something even more unexpected, though the writer is more of a ‘real-world’ one than some of the British/Euro weirdos writing for the independents at the moment, so it is probably safe to assume it won’t turn into a William Burroughs existentialist fantasy (see “Zero” and Secret Avengers by Ales Kot for examples of that). That being said, the main character does have some weird dreams, whose cast include (the then topical) President Reagan and the angel of Christa McCauliffe, and there is a lot of “mystical” imagery bobbing about in them; time will tell.The second half reveals that it is apparently more to do with time-travel and factions of time-travellers busy correcting/re-writing history for some arcane purpose as yet unrevealed. However, our quartet are now in 2016, where lead papergirl Erin meets her future self, along with more time-travellers and some giant monsters.So, what is it time-travellers are always told not to do? Well, too late for that now, and older Tiffany - who can’t remember where she got her bullet-scar from - in between fighting chrono-monsters, finding time-lost papergirls, and getting said papergirls to where they need to go, also gives some life-coaching to younger Tif. Time will tell, as they say in these parts.This is a very entertaining story, by a writer and an artist who are experts in their field, and I hope that my local library keeps buying this series so that I can follow the story and find out what is going on.

About the Author

Charles Robert Darwin was born in 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. At Cambridge University he formed a friendship with J. S. Henslow, a professor of botany, and that association, along with his enthusiasm for collecting beetles, led to “a burning zeal,” as he wrote in his Autobiography, for the natural sciences. A voyage to the Southern Hemisphere on the H.M.S. Beagle between 1831 and 1836 would lay the foundation for The Origin of Species, published in 1859. His other works include The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871) and Recollections of My Mind and Character, also titled Autobiography (1887). Charles Darwin’s Diary of the Voyage of the H.M.S. Beagle was published posthumously in 1933.

Do not buy the "Gold Edition!" This is NOT the complete book. It is missing the last half of the book. There are 14 chapters in On The Origin Of Species. This book abruptly ends mid-sentence on the first page of chapter 9.

Such an important foundational book that changed the course of the world and laid foundation to many new branches of science... but I have to admit the way Darwin writes is a bit difficult to slog through. But an insight I was able to gain throughout my reading is how different the popular and scientific climate must have been during Darwin time. Once I realized Origins was meant to be as much a persuasive text at can be and at least partly aimed at producing counterargument to his many dissenters at the time, the repetitions and many detailed examples made a lot more sense in context... Still the verbose style of writing makes it kind of dense.

Darwin wrote a great book. It deserves to be treated properly and that does not happen in this Kindle edition. It s full of mistakes to the point of often being confusing and unintelligible. it is clear that no human being ever looked at the output that became the Kindle.At $0.99 it is wildly overpriced.

This is pretty difficult to read, not because of the language or sentence structure which is surprisingly easy, but because of the content. So I am glad I purchased the $0.99 version. While the contents are the works of a genius of his time, it was difficult for me to force myself through the pages and pages observations of the ants and plants, and bugs, and doves to get to his famous theories and summaries. I do understand that this wasn't intended to be read casually, but given it's importance in history I wanted to give it a go. Just realize it can be difficult to get through.

This "150th Anniversary Edition" seems to be simply a reprint of the 100th Anniversary Edition. In particular, the forward by Julian Huxley was written in 1958 and while it is still mostly relevant, it has dated badly in a few places.The main text is Darwin's 6th Edition.Darwin considerably amended Origin of Species through the course of its six editions. For example he first used the expression "survival of the fittest" (coined by Herbert Spencer) in the 5th edition and he first used the term "evolution" in the 6th edition. However, he also diluted some of his arguments in an attempt to deflect criticism. Most notably he made more allowance for now discredited Lamarckian ideas of hereditable affects of use and disuse, versus pure natural selection.It is an open argument whether the 1st edition or the 6th edition best represents his real thinking. My 2 cents would be that the differences are relatively minor in the context of the overall work. The key driving ideas are well expressed in both and either is a fine start. Just be aware that other readers of Origin of Species may have seen a slightly different text!

Darwin was somewhat of a genius, some things he was so ahead of the time but other things we now know we're completely wrong. I am reading this book along with The Descent of Man to account for the dangerous rhetoric that these works contributed to racism and to Hitler and many other white supremacy groups. To say 1 people are less evolve than another opens a floodgate that has been proven to be completely untrue. Man is one, skin color is and hair are minute and genetically speaking it is proven we descend from 2 common ancestors and so do many others. Variation is within, but the common ancestor had to be black or brown.

And, surprisingly, it's not hard to read at all. Darwin was not a scientist: he was a naturalist, an observer of nature, and that's what makes his work not only commendable but also very approachable.For me, everything he explains about descent through modification and rudimentary organs and common ancestors not only makes sense but is corroborated by the principles of Biology concerning classification and evolution.Darwin, contrary to how creationists reacted and are still reacting towards him, does not confront the idea of "God created everything out of nothing" and dismisses it as nonsense (except maybe a little towards the end, when he writes "Do they really believe that atoms have been commanded suddenly to flash into living tissues?"). I am reviewing, specifically, the Harvard paperback facsimile printing of the 1859 first edition of Darwin's masterpiece.This is a very handsome edition of one of the most important books ever written, measured in terms of its impact on humanity. The book is an exact reprint of the 1859 first edition; it is a handy size, and though the paper is more like newspaper grade and could be higher quality, I was actually pleased that it was not too stiff and will allow opening without breaking the spine. (I really do not like cheap paperbacks that almost require you to break the spine to read the book, and then pages begin falling out.) All around, this is a very useful edition, if not a bit overpriced.Of course, in terms of the content, it is a real bargain. You get Darwin's original, unpolished work in all its offensive, revolutionary glory. The introduction by Ernst Mayr is a special treat, as well, explaining the importance of the work.Five stars!

This is a wonderful, thought-provoking book. It's short, but I like a book that says what needs to be said without a lot of extra fluff. I run a Yoga Teacher Training program and I plan to add this to my required reading list. You definitely need to read the Gita and Sutras (and the author tells you this up front), but after you've read them, come back to this book. I can also see this as a good resource for Yoga workshops (not just teacher trainings) or for individuals looking to better their understanding of Yoga.

As a beginning yoga student, I have been focused on positions and breathing. Beyer-Nelson provides a thought-provoking entry into the principles behind yoga. This is not a book for readers looking for instructions on poses. Instead, it moves the reader beyond to consider his/her mind state and how the body and mind work together to restore peace and health. The poetry is an added bonus. I'll come back to this book to deepen my awareness.

An easy read with a simple and approachable perspective on Yoga's two great masterful works.

I read Easing into the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras last year when it was first published. Now I have the audio version narrated by Jack Nolan and I've listened to it as I followed along in the book. His voice has a good pace and expression as he narrated. It's like reading it again but at a slower more gentle pace. I especially liked his reading when he came to the poetry sections.

This book is both inspiring and practical. As spiritual seekers, there is a temptation to reach out for more and more teachings to perhaps find those magical words that will set us free. While this may be useful in the beginning, there comes a time for actually putting the teachings to work in our lives where the magic can make a difference in our understanding. The format for this lovely volume provides exercises and suggestions for applying these ancient teachings in our everyday lives and finding how fully alive and transformative they still are. Thank you Ms. Beyer-Nelson.

About the Author

ALLEN RUCKER was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and has an MA in Communication from Stanford University, an MA in American Culture from the University of Michigan and a BA in English from Washington University, St. Louis. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller, "The Sopranos: A Family History," as well as two books with comedian Martin Mull, "The History of White People In America" and "A Paler Shade of White." His next book, "The Sopranos Family Cookbook," comes out in September, 2002. As a TV writer-producer, he co-founded the experimental video group, TVTV, and has written numerous network and cable specials and documentaries, including "The History of White People In America," "Christopher Reeve: A Celebration of Hope" (Emmy nominee), "CBS: The First Fifty Years," "Penn & Teller's Sin City Spectacular," "Big Guns Talk," a history of the Western, and TNT's "Family Values: The Mob & The Movies." He is also the head writer of the official Sopranos website. Mr. Rucker is the recipient of the duPont-Columbia Journalism Award, the Writers Guild Annual Award, and two CableACE Awards, among others. "The History of White People In America" was honored by the Museum of Television & Radio at their 2001 Paley Television Festival in Los Angeles. I have been slowly collecting Michele Scicolone's cookbooks. She did the recipes in this and the previous Soprano family Cookbook. This is a cookbook author well worth collecting. Her recipes all seem explosion proof (our family meaning is that a recipe that you can tinker with according to whats currently available in your own kitchen and still turns out tasting superb). LOL that is not necessarily the kind of explosion proof that a mobster would mean.Other reasons Michele's recipes work are that they don't call for too many ingredients or expensive hard to find things. They all taste great and can tolerate substitutions without loss of quality. (see explosion proof above). Tonight's dinner is that peppered pork loin with broccoli.As for the TV series, never watched it, but I might, just from the engaging bits of humour in between the recipes.Last of all this book garnered a criticism that it had too few recipes. Not as far as I'm concerned. Lots of them, plenty with full colour illustration so you can see how it should look.In between the recipes and humour are actually some very good common sense guidelines and tips for such things as navigating family holidays and momentous events like weddings, funerals and christenings all from an Italian American Catholic perspective but easily flexing to other backgrounds. You don't have to be Italian American and Catholic to appreciate the sane advice on putting together a dinner party for 12 by Carmela and Charmaine or the reasoning behind making an effort at Christmas, Easter and other family religious celebrations.The personalities may not be that engaging. I'd be repelled by most of them, but the wisdom in putting on a party, entertaining people who don't agree with each other but must get together for the sake of the family as a whole is very practical.But first and foremost, it's a great cookbook sequel to the Sopranos' Family Cookbook and that is thanks to the author of all the recipes inside, Michele Scicolone. I highly recommend her cookbooks. So far I've got of her cookbooks and they are excellent.

I ordered this for a Sopranos fanatic friend's birthday, and she loved it! She tried the recipes and they were delicious, and there is just enough mix of Sopranos snark and charm to make it a great read too (and yes, Carmella's Baked Ziti recipe is here).

Ok... I bought this book because I love the Soprano's... but I got more than I bargained for! This book is hilarious and believe it or not... there are some awesome recipes in here that even the worst cook can cook! Reading this book was like spending an evening with the Sopranos! Here you go... I liked this book so much that I am thinking of buying a few more to give out as Christmas presents! You really couldn't go wrong... not only is it funny, so it is entertaining... it has great recipes that are easy to make and taste awesome! Sounds like a gift to me! They should come out with another one... I would buy it! Get it... you won't be sorry! Totally happy with this purchase! Bada bing, bada boom!

One of my two favorite cookbooks, the other is the Soprano's Family Cookbook.

My neighbor was visiting when this cookbook arrived. She wanted to borrow it for an hour or two. It was a week before she returned it. It's a great cookbook, especially if you loved the "Soprano's". It has all their family recipes.....& my neighbor loved it so much, she ordered one for herself.

Have owned this book for years and just sent this copy to my brother. The recipes are genuine, just like my mother and grandmother made.

I have throughly enjoyed reading this book.It has all the characters in the Sopranos giving out advice on what to do at certain social gatherings and Carmela is the star because it is told from her viewpoint.It is a fun read and informative. I tried one of the recipes tonight and it was delicious.If you are a fan of The Sopranos or a lover of cookbooks it has something for you. It has a lot of articles and pictures from the show.It is worth a read.

As someone who does give a lot of parties, and I am totally at one with the style of Amy Sedaris (I like You, Entertaining under the influence) and always aspired to Carmella's style, I love this book! I like Amy's hilarious book too. They are QUITE different.I just started watching the Sopranos and having the cook book is cute and fun. I am enjoying the humerous characters giving advice. It is actually very good advice!As a cook book; it has party menu plans and recipes and they are doable and quite good. Plus, I never would have thought of putting a white serving plate on a white tablecloth with white flowers...really! I am not joking. It never would have crossed my mind! It really does make things look pretty. I think that the photos and menus are great.I like the review question # 4; I am over the age of 13, hee hee...I am 50 and I have given a lot of parties. I have party anxiety everytime! I especially liked Doctor Melfi's advice on that.

Not just a pretty picture book, this one has detailed coverage of painting and architecture along with brief historical and cultural vignettes. Although very well illustrated, the small format (6¾ by 6 inches) makes it usable as a travel guide. Don't visit Andalucia without it!That is the brief review I wrote for a recommended reading list for my "Arts in Spain" course at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. When I checked back with Amazon to see if it was still available for my students to purchase, I was shocked at the current price.I bought my copy for around $15; the price on the dust cover is $19.95. Yet we have vendors selling copies through Amazon at more than $60 and one offered at $120!!! What's going on here? If the book were out of print and limited copies available it might be understandable, but it was only published in 2006. Amazon clearly needs to do a better job of policing its vendors.If you go to Borders, you will find paper-back copies available for $16.99 and hard-cover copies offered at the cover price, $19.95. This is an excellent book - just don't buy it from Amazon.

We enjoyed the beautiful photos pre-trip, and once in Andalusia we found this book to be a fantastic resource for the historical background as well. Highly recommended.

This book gives great background info about complex Al Andalus. Now I understand more of Spain and the great worthwile influence of the Moors on the whole of Europe.

I'm from Andalucia, and this book is not that great, besides it is very small.

I bought the book to help with my term paper I was writing for an Art class. The photos are superb and the description of the art and arquitecture was useful.

Both pictures and text are superb! Spain in general doesn't interest me, but a visit to Andalusia is now on my bucket list.

More description than pictures however gives a vast amount of information.

love the book and not easy to find.
