I really enjoy Taylor Holloway's books. The characters are interesting, well-developed and have chemistry. The story is interesting, well-written with a happily ever after. In addition to receiving an arc, I purchased the book for my collection.

I read a book a day and this book is very juvenile. It’s has some good parts but it’s also kinda boring. I’m getting ready to read about his sister Kate, hopefully it’s better.

4.5 starsThe new series started with a BANG!!ADMIT YOU WANT ME is a story about two people's fear of falling in love when they were both individually burned by love before. Emma is Ward's sister's best friend with whom he had a one night of bliss few years back. Now she works in his bar until her break from school. They spend time together outside of work and decided to keep it casual. But Emma who always had feelings for Ward finds it difficult to carry on this casual ruse and breaks off with him. Ward who's been a player for so long is confused by his mixed feelings for Emma. How they take a leap and decide to pursue this love is the story. Sexy smart Ward and sweet genius Emma are a perfect pair. They will get to us with all their constant bickering, word wars and what not!! In most places I felt like Ward when Emma flaunts her academical intelligence. Good god I had a great laugh at their expense!! And these two different people how they learn to overcome all their basic differences to love each other is well said in a great layout with excellently supportive characters. Each character is unique in their own style and made the story more interesting and colourful. It was really relaxing and fun to read one story where the concerned sibling doesn't go ballistic when her friend is involved with her brother. Can't wait to see how the entire series pans out.I volunteered to review the advanced copy of the book and this is my honest opinion of the story.

This sweet contemporary romance was full of snarky sassy dialogue between the main couple, Ward and Emma. They share some history that was more of a hookup for Ward, but meaningful to Emma. She has a protective champion in her best friend Kate, who is Ward’s younger sister.Years later as she is earning her doctorate, and getting over an emotional yet humiliating relationship with one of her writing professors, she meets up with Ward again.I liked their back and forth banter that really is a camouflaged attempt to mask their attraction to one another. I liked he way Ward is suddenly out of his element, and clueless on how to keep Emma. It’s sweet the way he tried to make an effort in learning the things she like to make her happy. As sweetly romantic as it was, there was plenty of steamy hot scenes between the two of them that lit up the virtual pages of this story.Satisfying from start to finish!!I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

I would give this book 10 stars if I could! It was that good!! I’m not kidding. Stop what you are doing right now and read it.I absolutely loved Emma. (Are you sensing a theme here)? She is honest, almost to a fault. And blushes a lot. I can totally relate to her. Especially in the blushing department. She is smart, and sweet and sexy, but doesn’t know she is. And sometimes insecure.I love Ward! He is so swoon worthy! He is very protective of Emma and his sister.I loved it and when he takes Emma to a football game. He gets her out of her comfort zone and they way he gets her to go with him is fantastic! Their banter is crazy to watch.“ “Not everyone likes football. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to mop in peace and have the tv tuned to something that isn’t boring sports.” “Boring?!” He looked horrified. You’d have thought I’d just personally insulted him or blasphemed against the lord himself.“I laughed and cried while reading this book. And I’m smiling right now as I remember the story. I finished it a 2 am last night.I can’t wait for Kate’s story! Taylor, please, please!

While I have only read two other books by Ms Taylor Holloway, Admit You Want Me is my favorite by her. Within this second chance romance are realistic characters that are relatable. You can easily envision the scene at any point in this well crafted book and to me, it truly takes a special kind of Author to draw you right in and make you 'feel' as if you are there. I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline and the engaging characters will melt your heart. Follow Emma and Ward on their journey. After both have had their heart broken, can these two open themselves up and heal together? The banter between these two is done to perfection. Watch as Emma's one time crush turns into all out love. She might be his Sister's best friend but to Ward, she could be his everything.I voluntarily requested an advanced reader's copy of Admit You Want Me in exchange for my honest opinion and I highly recommend reading this amazing release. Congratulations to Ms Holloway.

Ok when I finished Taylor Holloway’s last series of books I was sad it was over. But after reading this book I think this one is going to just as great if not better! I loved this book! Emma and Kate are college roommates. They are having a Halloween party where the drinks flow freely. When Kate’s brother, Ward, arrives it’s clear that Emma wants him and the feeling is mutual. But it’s a one-off. Three years pass. Wards pro football career is over, he owns a bar and Kate works at the bar with him. Emma is trying to get her PHd. She needing summer work so Kate hires her to waitress at the bar. Emma and Ward have a unique relationship. Their snarky banter is adorable almost like foreplay. This book is my favorite of Taylor’s! What’s going to happen with Kate? Can’t wait to read the next book!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have the Robin Buss translation of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO in paperback, but that copy was old and worn. I wanted a more durable hardcover edition to read and to display on my bookshelf in my new house. The hardcover I bought from Total Books arrived in near-perfect condition, exactly as advertised, and looks gorgeous on the shelf. Why Robin Buss' translation for Penguin Classics? That's a reasonable question since Alexandre Dumas has been dead long enough for his works to enter the public domain. Several translations of his major novels are not only available in cheaper editions (such as Barnes & Noble Classics), but for free on Project Gutenberg. These are inferior and, in the case of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, censored translations. Most of them date back to the Victorian period, and render Dumas' evergreen French into English prose that feels old-fashioned and stilted today. Furthermore, because these are translations from the Victorian period, the translators filtered Dumas through their own moral sensibilities to give us Bowdlerized versions of a novel that ran on sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll a century before rock 'n roll was something you could do without a machine gun.Robin Buss' unabridged translation comes directly from the original French and renders Dumas into fresh, readable modern English. Material previously omitted by Victorian-era translators such as Franz' hashish-fueled sexual fantasies and the strongly implied lesbian relationship between Eugenie and Louise remain intact and uncensored. As another reviewer pointed out, Buss will provide footnotes to explain subtleties that aren't easily translated from French to English, such as insults delivered by using the formal you (vous) rather than the informal/friendly/intimate you (tu).A detailed appendix provides valuable historical and cultural context that aids the reader in understanding Dumas' masterpiece, and includes a primer on the rise, fall, return, and final downfall of Napoleon Bonaparte that is crucial to making sense of the politics driving the novel's plot.If you cannot read Dumas in his native French, and you want a definitive English version, Robin Buss's unabridged and uncensored modern English translation is essential reading. No other translation will suffice.

This is my favorite novel, a story not only of persecution and vengeance, but of man's relation to his God and how it drives, inspires and interferes with his judgements. Often adapted to film, nobody has captured the depth of Dumas' perceptions and understanding of people, largely because filmmakers focus on the excellently-told action rather the true essence of the story. This is one man's battle against himself, beautifully articulated egardless of which translation from French you choose to read. If you've not read Dumas before, be aware that he sets up his characters and circumstances, creating mysteries, then departs from his main story line to pursue secondary characters. All the threads pull together by the end of the story, but through at least a third of the book, Edmund Dantes is only peripherally present. Don't be discouraged - it's worth the wait, as the resolution is one of the most moving I've encountered in literature. A brilliant book by one of history's most original writers and creators of great heroes.

I love this book. It is a masterpiece of writing and I wanted a copy I could read any time I wanted. However, the Kindle edition has so many errors that it is unreadable. Every page has words running together, and it makes for a huge headache to get through even 2 pages. I couldn't read it due to these issues. I'm very glad I only spent $1.99 on it, but I wish I had spent nothing. A very poorly edited kindle edition.

It's a classic for a reason. I can hardly put it down.

This classic story of wrongful imprisonment, hidden treasure, and revenge is truly a masterpiece. Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel The Count of Monte Cristo has seen life not only in print but in film and television, but one cannot appreciate the novel unless you read it in its entire unabridged length.Edmond Dantes is wrongfully accused of a crime and thrown in prison without trial to be forgotten, after overcoming both mental and physical anguish and befriending a fellow prisoner, and finally he is able to escape. Thanks to his friendship Dantes knows where a potential hidden treasure is located and finds it to be real, and using it begins finding out why he was thrown into prison and chart is path to revenge through fortune and hidden identities. Yet what this quick synopsis omits is the numerous and fascinating major and secondary characters that Dantes interacts throughout the narrative.Originally published in serial form, Dumas was paid for how much he wrote and one would think that The Count of Monte Cristo might be riddled with meandering subplots that never go anywhere and/or have nothing to do with the central plot. But Dumas instead wove a tapestry of beauty with every word he wrote; instead of making meandering plots he described scenes and events in rich detail that it brings the story even more alive in the reader’s imagination. If pressed to find anything negative to say about this book, the easiest answer would be cultural references that are almost 170 years old. The only other negative was the completely different societal norms that were in Parisian society in the 1840s compared today’s. However both of these ‘negatives’ can easily be put down to a piece of fiction that was contemporary when it was written but now can be seen as historical fiction with the passage to time. The Count of Monte Cristo needs to be read in all its unabridged glory to fully appreciate why it is a masterpiece and classic. Dumas’ literary tapestry is a delight to behold once finished with the last page and makes the reader think about when they’ll have time to reread it in the future.

I am always amazed by the talent and genuine skill the Gears employ when writing. They are two of the most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of "knowing" (through their work). When the Gears write about ancient civilizations, their words paint living pictures that spring off the page and onto my imagination in such a way that's it like watching a movie!Their depth of their understanding of ancient peoples, customs and traditions; their knowledge and ability to impart that information in an entertaining way and the scope of their own imaginative process is truly enviable, enchanting and enjoyable. Their books are always entertaining. ALWAYS. This one, The People of the Morning Star, is no exception. The main characters--Night Shadow Star, Blue Heron, Seven Skull Shield, The Morning Star and Fire Cat--are incredibly complex and developed. By the end of the book, I felt as if I knew them all personally and could pick them out of a crowd by the way they walked, talked and gestured. Blue Heron's pipe smoke would lead me right to her. Fire Cat's prowess with a weapon and integrity would prove him out. Night Shadow Star's nobility; Seven Skull's humor, playfulness...and ferociousness in battle; The Morning Star's ambiguity... all of this I would recognize in these characters were I to meet them on the street--so well written were they. The enemy--the antagonist, the demon--who hounds them is so frighteningly evil he is terror personified. I will not give away his identity. Suffice it to say he is scary. This is an evil beyond imagination. This is a wonderful book. Just wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone, anywhere, anytime. It's just amazing!

I’ve been a fan of the Gears since I picked up their first book many years ago. This new series begins with People of the Morning Star, a saga of the Cahokian people. Cahokia was an enormous city that “at its height, covered more than six square miles around what is now St. Louis.” Ancient people often packed up and moved to the great city. The Gears have captured the awe-inspiring qualities of this early civilization with their usual skill. Well researched, the couple weave the spiritual resurrection of the Cahokian ‘Morning Star’ who is reborn in the body of Chunkey Boy. The Morning Star’s Clan assumes coveted positions in Cahokia. But, with power comes envy. As with all ruling classes, there are those who would challenge the divine Morning Star and his family. While he is instrumental in this brilliant tale of the past, it is his sister, Night Shadow Star, who captured my attention. Widowed and devastated by the loss of her husband, who was killed during a raid on Red Wing Town, Night Shadow Star uses a type of hallucinogenic to descend to the Underworld. She becomes “possessed” by the spirit Piasa. Thus, begins a story of intrigue, murder, mystery, and secrets. The authors guide the reader through the interwoven lives of the characters, developing every personality and the conflicts they face. Someone is killing Morning Star’s Four Winds Clan members in horrible and violent ways. The Morning Star himself is attacked! As the characters grow and the story progresses, it reads like a detective story from the ancient past. The Gears show an incredible ability to create a political mystery from distant times. I fell in love with the characters Fire Cat of the Red Wing Clan, and Seven Skull Shield, a rascally thief. Both prove to be unlikely heroes, and along with Night Shadow Star grow into fascinating characters. Set in a colorful landscape of towering mounds and homes, rich spiritual journeys, and life altering mysteries, this is a story to savor. I enjoyed this excellent book so much I have already started reading the next book in the series. I highly recommend the book to anyone who enjoys mystery, history, early North American civilizations, and thrilling action.

Writers of text books write facts. Really great fiction writers present those facts by humanizing them. Michael and Kathleen Gear can weave those facts into a stunning look back into the time. New finds bring new facts to light, and interestingly enough, the reader absorbs history much easier than trying to remember dates and battles. The huge, sprawling city of Cahokia attracted people the way big cities attract folks nowadays. Michael and Kathleen Gear make Cahokia and the Cahokians come to life. I'd give the book 5 stars.

This is another fine story by the Gears .. it takes us back to Cahokia, we find Power stirring, while people are sucked into the whirlpool. Cleverly written with well fleshed characters. This book is wonderful in the way it sets up the puzzle pieces, then managed in an entertaining way. I couldn't put it down.

The Gears (Michael and Kathleen) produce the very best indigenous people novels there are. Their background in archeology and knowledge of the Indian cultures make for fantastic stories. Having read their entire series since they began - I await every new novel with great anticipation. A must read for anyone interested in everything you want to know about the American Indian tribes and how they lived, loved and fought for what they believed in. You walk away with a great appreciation for a culture oft times misunderstood and biased by what we were led to believe as youth.

They have done it again. Micheal and Kathleen are my favorite authors. Besides being very entertaining, the many concepts I have learned through their books were a big help in the Archaeology Course I took recently.

People of the Morning Star has become my favorite Gear novel. Action-packed and filled with interesting historical facts and lore, this book grips one right from the opening passages. I have found that the authors, frequently, spend quite a bit of time setting the stage so to speak. Nothing wrong with that approach, just their method. In this novel, one is allowed to pick up facts as the excitement unfolds. I like this approach much better because those of us who follow the books have a pretty good sense of the different periods.I look forward to the next installment.

For those that are survivors of the contamination, "A Trust Betrayed" is the definitive guide to where, why and how this happened and is mandatory reading. For others, this expose unravels the red tape and lays bare the details of the struggle for all to see.The line that riled me up was from page 241 in which Captain Kendra Hardesty, after finally pulling the misleading brochure from their website stated, "As soon as it is vetted and approved, it will be put back up. The Secretary of the Navy has seen it, and the commandant will see it soon." For me, this exemplifies the defiance of the Marine Corps toward the matter. Page 179 describes similar defiance, even taunting by Marine Corps officials.Next in line on my WTF scale is the $600k NAS contract with the Department of the Navy on page 205, casting doubt on NAS' position as an unbiased investigator in the matter.Chapter 15, "The Way to the Oval Office" is a perfect primer for anyone wondering where the lawsuits have gone and where they are situated today. Why a government or agency would do such things is a common question that most Americans ask that usually never gets answered because the truth gets wrapped in red tape and 86ed to the dusty, dark vaults. That the government and particular agencies did do this and how they did it - from 'gung ho, caution to the wind' to 'whoops, hope no one notices' to zany legal positions - is now on stark display.Although I have a ton more questions about the Camp Lejeune contamination, I now feel like some of them have been answered. "A Trust Betrayed" is one of the centerpieces of my Camp Lejeune library (as soon as I can put it down). Since I did not become aware of the contamination until 2010, when the brochure I got indicated that it involved Tarawa Terrace, a place I had rarely been during my tour, I was only vaguely aware that there was a lot of effort by people that had already occurred. It was great to see the names and stories of those people. It gave me a great appreciation for what they have done to unearth the contamination and the pain and difficulties they have endured. For my inquiring mind, it put the pieces in their place.

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this book since I was notified in September 2013 of my toxic exposure 26 years ago. Mike did a great job of covering the facts surrounding the history and cover ups involving Camp Lejeune. I think the leadership involved believes that if the facts continue to trickle out that the impact will be diminished. I would love to see some case studies and medical research conducted by Medical Colleges and published in Professional Medical Journals. It is so difficult for the Marines who were poisoned to get help because we are burdened with proving our conditions were caused by the contamination at Camp Lejeune. This is extremely difficult with no medical research, and the ATSDR slowly releasing the Birth Defects and Mortality study results while still not releasing the true actual numbers and specific conditions of the Marines that are suffering. At 48, I am one of the youngest of the exposed, yet the 15 conditions covered under the new law include infertility and miscarriage and is not retroactive. Almost every person surveyed lists "skin disorder", I hope that the detailed report from the ATSDR released later this year includes the specifics. Thank you Jerry and Mike for your dedication and perseverance. If it were not for you, I would still be missing the piece of the puzzle that explains my health conditions.

Until I read the book, I thought I had a good understanding of what happened. I was wrong. The book starts with an overview of who John A. Lejeune was and then you read chapter after chapter of solid facts that tell a story of cover up, deception, denial, and such outrageous mismanagement that if not done by a government agency, would surely end in jail time and massive lawsuits for any civilian entity. I'm confident General Lejeune is rolling over in his grave. The facts are documented. The Dept of Defense can continue this façade of denial and delay but it's gone too far to be swept under the rug. The amount of work done by those involved in uncovering this disaster is truly amazing.I don't think the full extent of those injured will be fully known for many years. The latency period for some cancers is still yet to come. It's past time to point fingers and blame anyone individual. In order to restore faith in our justice system there needs to be acceptance that those who stood up to defend our freedom suffered untold illnesses, not on the battle field, but on the home front that was to be there safe haven from war. Financial compensation needs to be paid to those who suffered or lost loved ones. The Veterans Administration needs to make Camp Lejeune a "Presumptive" category so that veterans don't have to beg for money to pay for daily living expenses because they are dying from cancer and losing everything they have. Military families who lived on base need to be compensated for their illnesses as well.No amount of money will compensate for the loss of a loved one. I do believe that the healing will start the moment that DoD steps up and takes responsibility and begins to financially compensate victims for their illnesses, loss of income, shortened life span, and reduction in quality of life.I hope our Supreme Court members get a chance to read this book before they rule on the upcoming case that will have a direct effect on Camp Lejeune victims.
